JOB DESCRIPTION: Manages the integration of Anesthetists into a successful practice that will implement state-of-the-art patient care models aligned with Emory Healthcare’s future vision and operational needs. Functions as a primary resource regarding Anesthetist recruitment and retention, scope of practice, utilization, credentialing, orientation, regulation and policy issues, optimal billing, competency, professional development, student placement, compliance and research. Possesses strong leadership, team building, and decision-making capability. Demonstrates excellent communication, coordination, and collaboration with EHC leadership and departments throughout the system. Possesses hard skills with the ability to use data that drives decisions and priority setting, as well as soft skills to communicate decision rationale and garner engagement around competing priorities while maintaining sound resource stewardship across the EHC anesthetist enterprise. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works in collaboration with Corporate Director of APPs and Anesthesiology Senior Leadership in crafting a strategic plan for the Anesthetist cohort. Assists in the preparation and effective managing of annual operating plans, with particular focus on anesthetist labor relative to demand and volumes across Operating Units, and capital budgets for areas of responsibility. Monitors monthly labor reports (salary, extra duty, contract expense, and overall FTE allocation) to assess Anesthetist value/productivity. Works with physician and administrative teams to determine Anesthetist practice needs/growth planning and labor management. 1.Program Development In collaboration with Senior Anesthesiology leadership, explore, recommend, develop, and implement new opportunities to optimize clinical care. Communicates regularly and frequently with APPs via e-mail, newsletters, and/or Intranet. Maintains system-wide data on all Anesthetists at EHC. Participates in workforce assessment and needs-projections to develop workforce plans to meet Anesthetist needs in the future. Serves as a member of appropriate administrative and clinical committees at the senior leadership level. Works to reduce/eliminate recognition of CRNAs and CAAs as subtypes of anesthetists; strives to integrate both groups as anesthetists under the EHC brand. Continues to integrate the anesthetist model to be inclusive of both CRNAs and CAAs . 2.Operations Oversees structured Anesthetist-associated metrics for assessing productivity and quality of care and uses data to identify and implement changes to optimize care-delivery models. Improves and supports integration of Anesthetists across hospital and ambulatory settings at EHC. Participates in local and system based operational/quality committees. Develops and implements programs to support Anesthetist accountability and requirements regarding compliance, billing, and documentation in conjunction with physician and administrative leadership. Provides regular support and mentorship to Chief Anesthetists to ensure flow of information as well as leadership growth. Holds Chief and Lead anesthetists accountable for optimal labor expense management, including flexing staff across sites and services to match demand, minimization of extra duty labor, reduction/elimination of contract labor. Provides leadership support and direction to APPs in the Anesthesia Perioperative Clinic. Serves as a connection point for APC APPs to system APP structure. Triages and escalates APC issues, as needed. Ensures APC APP team is engaged in department and system initiatives as appropriate. 3.Recruitment and Retention Partners with Talent Acquisition and Anesthesiology Leadership to support the active recruitment of local and national Anesthetists. Serves as the EHC anesthetist lead in standardization of Anesthetist position classifications, compensation / incentive models, job descriptions and peer review. Develops ongoing recruitment plans and cadence for Emory¿s presence at local, regional, and national events to promote the Emory Anesthesiology brand and consistently source talent. Sets expectations for anesthetist chiefs, leads, and frontline team members to engage in recruitment and retention efforts. Serves as Anesthetist lead and primary resource for validating market data regarding compensation and compensation models. Partners with Department leadership and EHC compensation to balance priorities relative to compensation across the entire EHC anesthetist workforce. Defines job responsibilities and workload expectations to match compensation structure emphasizing sound financial stewardship. Partners with Department leadership and acts as the primary clinical leader for communicating compensation plan changes, decision points, and expectations. 4.Clinical Outcomes Identifies and develops process and outcome metrics specific to the practice environments to ensure the highest quality of care and patient satisfaction. Ensures the completion of focused/ongoing professional-practice evaluation with appropriate leadership. 5.Professional Development Fosters an environment for continual learning by promoting, organizing, and leading APP continuing medical and professional education. Develops and oversees a comprehensive orientation/onboarding program. Creates a pipeline of talent to meet current/future needs by promoting Anesthetist clinical rotations. Develops and fosters relationships with CRNA/AA schools to support student placements. 6.Competency Evaluation Develops a framework to ensure compliance with mandatory initial and ongoing performance competency evaluation. Ensures standards met around credentialing/privileging with MECs. 7.Research Fosters development of an organizational culture which encourages and supports Anesthetist research and publication efforts. Promotes clinical inquiry by conducting research and translating research findings into practice, utilizing an evidence-based practice (EBP) approach. 8.Compliance and Health Policy Issues for APPs Ensures and documents compliance with state medical and nursing boards regarding Anesthetist practice at EHC. Monitors Anesthetist practice and physician supervision agreements in accordance with state law and regulations. Develops and maintains local, state, and national relationships outside EHC in order to influence policy in Anesthetist practice. 70% admin/30% clinical

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Clinical experience: 7 years of experience as an anesthetist with at least 5 years at the level of chief anesthetist or greater leadership scope. Preferred: MBA, MHA, FACHE
